Division of Community Ecology and Conservation Biology

Research priorities

  • Structural changes of mammal communities through time and space;
  • Statistical modelling of georeferenced data on modern species distribution and different environmental parameters in view of their extrapolated use;
  • Factors and mechanisms leading to biodiversity loss in Bulgaria and ways to limit and overcome their effects; sound characteristics of bats and other animal species – communication, echolocation and their application in monitoring and environmental protection.

 

Current and recent projects with coordinators from the division

  • 2017-2019. Impact of traffic noise on model anuran species (Amphibia: Anura) in Bulgaria. Financed by MES, Programme for support of young scientists in BAS. Coordinator: Chief Assistant Simeon Lukanov, PhD.
  • 2015-2017. Ornithological survey in the region of Tran municipality. Financed by Fortis Facility Ltd. Coordinator: Biologist Dimitar Ragyov.
  • 2015-2017. Wetland Ecosystem services Mapping and Assessment in Bulgaria (WEMA). Funded by program BG03 "Biodiversity and ecosystem services" of the EEA and Norway grants. Coordinator: Chief Assistant Nevena Ivanova, PhD.
